MARIJA McCARTHY

"As I travel this life, painting fulfills my need to comment on, to record, to exult in the scenes in my path, which--by their beauty or humility, their power or poetry--elicit my creative reaction. "

Connecticut painter and educator, MARIJA PAVLOVICH McCARTHY was born and raised in Yugoslavia. She is an interpretive realist who works in oil and watercolor. Her love of landscape painting led her to spend several summers working in regions of great painterly character, notably the Adriatic Coast, the Costa Brava, the Greek Islands, Provence and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She also spent three prolific and inspired years in Pakistan and three in Tunisia. Marija McCarthy's works are in the National Museum in Belgrade, the Presidential collections of Pakistan, Palestine and Tunisia and in corporate, Congressional and private collections in America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Since 1962, she has taught painting, in various mediums, at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, the Maryland School of Art and Design and the Art League in Alexandria, Virginia. Currently, Marija teaches at the Washington Art Association in Washington, Connecticut.
