on her invitation to exhibit at the Biennale Internazionale di Opere Carta in Italy, November 2015 - February, 2016! Deborah specializes in monoprints and monotypes. Both are created from inked plates run through a press. A monotype uses a smoothe plate, a monoprint, an etched plate. As the prefix suggests, a mono -type or -print is a one-of-a-kind creation. Most of the ink is exhausted after the first run through the press; if any ink remains, another run through may produce a similar--not identical--print. Fainter, it's often referred to as a ghost of the original. Artists who dabbled in this one-off fashion? William Blake, Degas, Gaugin, Pissaro.
Not heading to Italy any time soon? The gallery features a selection of Deborah's art in a range of delicate patterns and moods. Images: Deborah Weiss monotype (left) from her New Terrain series (2015); Hercules Seghers monoprint (right), Town with Four Towers (1631).
